What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. There was uneven darkening scattered in the poster, and there was approximately 2" trimmed from the blank top and blank bottom borders. It had a tear in the right of the brim of von Stroheim's cap. It had some tears in his jacket, with one extending into the lower part of Swanson's dress, and paper loss at the crossfold that fell in Swanson's ribcage. There were some tears extending into the "ULE" at the end of the title and in the film strip area beneath it. There were some extra creases and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of some foldlines, and some faint smudges and scuffs scattered in the bottom credits area. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. A really talented restorer expertly backed the poster and performed great restoration to the above defects. It displays fantastically from any reasonable viewing distance, and the poster does not have a "restored" look, and it will display great on the new owner's wall! Learn More about condition grades
