And now Alec Guinness as 'The Man in the White Suit'"; "Ealing Studios present another comedy"; about a man who invents fabric that never gets dirty or wears out, and how the garment industry tries to suppress it) starring Alec Guinness ("Britain's Top Comedian will have you in stitches"), Joan Greenwood, Cecil Parker, Michael Gough, and Ernest Thesiger

Artist: A.R. Thomson & S. John Woods
Important Added Info: Note that we know there is an early re-release quad and English one-sheet for this movie is said to date from the early 1950s. We can't say for certain that this pressbook is from the very first release, but everything about it would seem to indicate it is, which is why we are listing it as being from 1951 (but bear in mind that it is the "international campaign book", although we don't know if there was a separate domestic one, since this one covers both international and domestic releasing (see below) . If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this English pressbook, which is a "country of origin" item for this English movie, and it has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still the only example of this pressbook we have ever auctioned. It is for the "international" release (which meant outside of the United Kingdom and Ireland). One two-page interior spread says "United Kingdom and Eire press ads & posters", and that shows the British quad, the double crown, and the 22x28 half-sheet, and another 3-page spread says "overseas press ads & posters", and that spread shows the English six-sheet, three-sheet, and one-sheet, indicating that (as eMoviePoster.com had previously discovered) English one-sheets, three-sheets, and six-sheets were intended for overseas use, and were not intended to be used in England. This wonderful pressbook is filled with 16 pages of images and information about this classic movie, and the cover has the classic art of Guinness running. In addition to this pressbook, there is a 5" x 8" supplement, which is for 2 3/4" x 3 3/4" cloth patches that theaters could order that said "Watch for The Man in the White Suit" (and theaters were intended to buy them by the hundreds or thousands, and pass them out on the street like heralds). Also note that this English pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut!

Condition: very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It was folded across the middle at one time. It has some minor wear, but is generally in pretty nice condition!
