Date Sold 4/11/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Autographed Scrapbook (measures 12 1/2" x 14 1/2"; 36 pages) (Learn More) Mister Ed, the 1958 - 1966 Walter Brooks talking horse family slapstick comedy television (TV) series starring Allan 'Rocky' Lane (as the voice of Mr. Ed), Alan Young (as Wilbur Post), Connie Hines, Larry Keating, and Edna Skinner Important Added Info: Note that Ira Stewart was an assistant director in Hollywood in the late 1950s, and in 1961, he got his very first chance to be the director, which was on an episode of "Mister Ed", the popular TV show. To commemorate the occasion, he purchased an autograph album and asked all of the cast and crew to sign it, so that he could remember this special moment in his life when he crossed over from assistant director to director. The album has been personally autographed (signed) by Ira Stewart, Karl Zint, Myrtle Logan (who designed the costumes), Allan 'Rocky' Lane (the voice of Mister Ed), Alan Young (as Wilbur, Mister Ed's owner), Jack Pierce (legendary Universal makeup artist from the great 1930s and 1940s Universal monster movies, who did the makeup for this episode!), Edna Skinner, Connie Hines (as Carol Post, Wilbur's wife), Larry Keating, Archie Dalzell, Archie Bacon, Arthur Lubin (the producer and series director), Al Simon, Esperanza Corona, Bob Cole, Larry Chapman, Bert Allen, Carl Riggis, Tommy Mattius, Betty Conner, Connie Mertes, Tony Rizza, Bill Harper, Chic Chichetti, John Fisher, Ralph Long, Anne Darrow! The first page of the scrapbook has the notice from the Hollywood Reporter from October 10, 1961 telling that producer-director Arthur Lubin is giving his assistant director, Ira Stewart, an opportunity to direct a segment of this series, titled "Mr. Ed Goes Western". The next four pages of the scrapbook are filled with the autographs listed above (plus some we could not quickly identify), and one of those pages has great art of Ira Stewart standing on the set by his chair with the TV camera, and Mister Ed near him. There is a poem from one of Mr. Stewart's friends on the next page, and then the rest of the pages are blank. The cover of the album is embossed with Mr. Stewart's name. The episode was not shown until January 14, 1962, and it was titled "Ed's Bed". Mr. Stewart would go on to direct five more episodes. Obviously, the purchaser of this scrapbook could keep it as it is, or they could choose to separate the autographs and sell them individually. Either way, this is certainly a very unusual and rare item! Note that this item was consigned to us by a man who has been a major movie memorabilia dealer from the 1970s on. During that time, he would regularly purchase collections of movie memorabilia from both dealers and collectors, and in some of those collections he purchased autographed items. Both we and our consignor feel it is extremely likely that the autograph on this item is authentic, but he does not have a certificate of authenticity. Condition: good to very good. The pages have darkened slightly around the edges and there is tiny paper loss in the bottom left corner of the pages with the autographs. The covers have stains and smudges, and the front cover is separating in half (see our images). Learn More about condition grades
