Wella is a German hair care company from the 1880s to the present. The company was founded in 1880 by Franz Stroher, and initially made wig products. Once wigs fell out of fashion, the company became well known for their permanent wave products which included the first perming appliances and hair dryers. Note that Clairol is the American personal care-product division of Wella.
