An Original Vintage Linenbacked French World War I Poster (measures 13 1/2" x 21" [34 x 53 cm]) (Learn More)

Francais Economisez Le Gaz (literally translates to "The French Save Gas"), the 1916 French World War I (WWI) Home Front poster encouraging citizens to save natural gas during wartime, and featuring art of a gas lamp. Note that this was part of a group of posters designed by school children of Paris

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had light staining in the entire lower right (see our image). It had a stain near the center, with a 5" vertical tear below it. It had a tape stain in the bottom border and some smudges and stains in the rest of the borders. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, and in spite of the above defects, the poster still displays pretty well!
