Portugal 25 Abril 1974 (literally translates to "Portugal April 25th, 1974"), the 1970s Portuguese poster celebrating the Carnation Revolution, and featuring a photo of a child placing a carnation in the barrel of a rifle. The Carnation Revolution was initially a military coup in Lisbon, Portugal, on April 25th, 1974 which overthrew the authoritarian regime of the Estado Novo. The revolution started as a military coup organized by the Armed Forces Movement composed of military officers who opposed the regime, but the movement was soon coupled with an unanticipated and popular campaign of civil resistance. This movement would lead to the fall of the Estado Novo and the withdrawal of Portugal from its African colonies. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
