Date Sold 5/3/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Edna Ferber's Show Boat, the 1936 James Whale epic romantic interracial romance riverboat musical ("Version of 1936"; "The grandest show you'll ever know!"; "Hear Glorious New Music and Songs by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein") starring Irene Dunne, Allan Jones, Charles Winninger, Paul Robeson, Helen Morgan, Helen Westley, Queenie Smith, Sammy White, Donald Cook, Hattie McDaniel, Sunnie O'Dea, "and a Cast of Thousands". Note that Universal had previously made a version of this classic stage play in 1929 (starring Lauira LaPlante, Joseph Schildkraut, and Jules Bledsoe), and it was remade again in 1951 (starring Howard Keel, Ava Gardner, and William Warfield)! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release U.S. posters from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a one-sheet (23 years ago for $4,025), a jumbo window card (18 years ago), and a window card (and NO other posters; only stills and lobby cards) from this movie until we received this poster! Note that this poster could conceivably be re-folded or rolled in a tube, but because it has some tape on the back of parts of the folds, and it would lessen its condition by folding or rolling it, we intend to send it in a large flat package, and will only send it rolled or re-folded if the new owner accepts responsibility if it is damaged from being rolled or re-folded. Please bear this in mind before placing your bid on this rare poster. Condition: good to very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfold and some surface paper loss and a partial second fold just above the right half of the regular horizontal fold, starting under the word "OF" and running to the right border. It had minor wear on the other folds. It had a pinhole in each corner and some tiny bits of paper loss in the corners, and a pinhole in the middle of each border, with very minor other border wear. Someone put tape on the back of the right half of the horizontal fold and also a few pieces of tape on the back of border tears or separation, and they performed paint touch up to the right half of the horizontal fold and the partial extra fold described above, without backing the poster. Surely that paint matched the poster well when it was done many years ago, but the paint now is much more noticeable. Either it could be left as it is, or any talented restorer could perform additional restoration to that area, either with or without re-backing the poster. Learn More about condition grades
