An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War I Poster (measures 20 1/2" x 28 1/2" [52 x 72 cm]) (Learn More) Save a Loaf a Week - Help Win the War, the 1917 U.S. World War I (WWI) Home Front poster ("U.S. Food Administration") encouraging people to assist in the war effort by conserving food, and featuring Frederic G. Cooper art of a hand slicing a loaf of bread. Note that there is a common expression that says "the greatest thing since sliced bread"! It might surprise you to learn that this did not happen until 1928, when a bread slicing machine was invented, and it was a massive hit. So that is why this poster shows an unsliced load of bread being sliced by hand! Artist: Frederic G. Cooper Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was mounted onto a thin linen with no excess (this was almost surely done soon after it was created). There was once a snipe of some sort attached to the top of the poster, and there are stains in the top blank border, and it also caused tiny areas of paper loss in the right of the top orange border. The poster could be displayed and enjoyed just as it is, or certainly, it could be removed from the old linen and professionally backed. Learn More about condition grades
