The San Diego Zoo is a zoo in Balboa Park, San Diego, California, founded in 1916 by Dr. Harry M. Wegeforth. Land was set aside in 1921, and the zoo has been open ever since. The zoo houses over 650 animal species, including polar bears, koalas, as well as lemurs, and is also active in conservation and species preservation.
