Date Sold 12/12/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Unfolded World War I Poster (measures 30 1/4" x 40 1/4" [77 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) Tell That to the Marines!, the 1917 U.S. World War I (WWI) recruitment poster ("Huns kill women and children!") encouraging men to join the Marine Corps , and featuring James Montgomery Flagg art of an angry businessman throwing off his hat and jacket after reading the newspaper headline! Note that the U.S. Marine Corps was founded in 1775 as the "fighting branch" of the U.S. Navy. Most people think of the Marines are a completely separate branch of the military, but actually, they are still closely tied to the Navy (although many Marines don't like to think about that)! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: James Montgomery Flagg Condition: good. The poster was never machine folded, but it was folded slightly below the middle at a slight diagonal, and there are many other creases and scuffs scattered throughout the poster, with some tears and tiny paper loss around the edges (and some of the tears that were repaired with tape from the back). There are some scuff marks that caused tiny surface paper loss and some that caused slight staining, but fortunately, most of the defects are in the white background areas and borders, so after restoration and linenbacking, the poster will display really well.
