An Unfolded Spanish Special Poster (measures 13" x 19 1/4" [33 x 49 cm]) (Learn More) 5ena Diada Memorial de la SIDA (literally translates to "5th AIDS Memorial Day"), the 1998 Spanish poster created to educate people about HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) which causes AIDS (Acquired ImmunoDeficiency Syndrome) and promoting a day of awareness. When AIDS gripped the world in 1981, local authorities, healthcare providers and governments quickly created health posters as a way to inform people about the new disease. These public health campaigns continued for over 20 years and still endure in some parts of the world today. The posters show the different tactics, images (some quite provocative) and messages used by various countries and health agencies in their attempts to educate people about the AIDS/HIV threat. Spain has a complicated history with HIV/AIDS, and is one of the more infected populations in Western Europe and North America. Combining the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Turkey and the United Kingdom would still only be 3/4 of the infected population in the Spanish region. In 1997, Spain had 104 cases of AIDS per 100,000 which was triple the European Union average at the time. Spain also accounted for a quarter of the HIV infected population of Western Europe at that time. However, in 2016 Spain had plateaued to a national average that echoed the average adult HIV prevalence in Western Europe & North American at 0.3%. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good to fine. The poster has never been folded and it is in nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
