An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

The Night Before Christmas, the 1941 William Hanna & Joseph Barbera (Hanna-Barbera) animated animation cartoon feline cat & mouse comedy short (produced by Fred Quimby; Jerry wants to play with the toys under the Christmas tree and he dodges a mousetrap, but then he mistakes Tom for a stuffed doll, and wakes him, and they do battle, with many of the toys cleverly coming to Jerry's aid) featuring Tom and Jerry. Note that Tom and Jerry is a classic series of cartoons created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. The first one was created in February 1940 and was called "Puss Gets the Boot", and that was also Hanna and Barbera's first cartoon at MGM. THey made other cartoons and then in June of 1941, they made a second Tom & Jerry cartoon called "The Midnight Snack", and then they made some other cartoons. But in December 1941, they made their third Tom & Jerry cartoon, which was this one, "The Night Before Christmas", and it proved so popular that they immediately began issuing lots and lots of additional Tom & Jerry cartoons, and there as a total of 114 cartoons through 1957. Seven of these won Academy Awards for Best Cartoon, tying for most wins with Walt Disney's Silly Symphonies. There were around 50 more cartoons created after the first run ended, through the early 2000s, and there were also TV shows based on these classic characters. Some people have criticized the cartoons for their "excessive violence", but actually no blood or gore was ever shown in any of them, and this type of violence is commonly referred to as "cartoon violence". Many of the Tom and Jerry cartoons are extremely clever and make wonderful use of music. They are not nearly as appreciated today as they should be, but in their day, they were among the most popular cartoons of the 1940s!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this was the third Tom & Jerry cartoon (see above). The earlier two were made quite a bit before this one, and I have never seen posters from either one. Most collectors agree that this poster is one of the finest Tom & Jerry posters ever, and of course, it is from extremely early in the series as well!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and some tiny bits of paper loss in the top and bottom quarters of the vertical fold, with a much lesser amount of wear on the other folds. It had some tiny pinholes in the top of the poster, and very minor wear in the rest of the borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
