Date Sold 5/25/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41 3/4" [69 x 106 cm]) (Learn More) Gimme Shelter, the 1971 Charlotte Zwerin, Albert Maysles, & David Maysles rock 'n' roll (rock and roll) music concert documentary ("The music that thrilled the world... and the killing that stunned it!"; "The fantastic Rolling Stones concert at Altamont, California where 300,000 young Americans went wild."; "Altamont changed a lot of people's heads") featuring The Rolling Stones, Jefferson Airplane, Ike and Tina Turner, The Grateful Dead, and Dick Carter. This is the movie that covered the Altamont concert where the Hell's Angels were invited to be in charge of security. They were responsible for the brutal beating and stabbing death of Meredith Hunter, an 18 year old black African American man. There were also three accidental deaths. The movie shows performances, violence, Grace Slick and Mick Jagger's attempts to cool things down, close-ups of young listeners (dancing, drugged, or suffering Angel shock), and a look at the Stones later as they watch concert footage and reflect on what happened. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very unusual poster! There is a "black and white" style one-sheet, which is commonly thought to be the regular domestic one-sheet, and a "color" style one-sheet, which is thought to be international, but this poster (which we have never auctioned before) is neither of those. We have previously auctioned a half subway poster that has a similar montage of images, and a window card that has similar coloring to this poster, and what all three posters have in common is that they all have a "GP" rating. We strongly suspect that all three posters are from when the movie first played in New York City, and that the other posters are from when it played around the country. But we have no hard evidence of this! The poster is appears to be darkened on the front, because the background areas are all a yellowish color, but actually, the back of the poster is white, indicating that it was created this way! Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept the uncertainties of exactly when it is from and how it was used! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that this one-sheet measures 27" x 41 3/4" [69 x 106 cm]. Condition: very good. The poster was never folded. It appears to be darkened, but actually, that is how it was created (see above). There are creases around the edges. Learn More about condition grades
