Date Sold 6/10/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Lost Patrol, the classic 1934 John Ford World War I (WWI) military adventure thriller melodrama ("Every woman living will love this staggering drama of living men!"; "Hearts that burn for women on the burning sands of Hell!"; "Brutal! Blazing! Glorious! It's great because it's real!"; "Glorious! Blazing!"; "The towering life triumph of John Ford who directed 'The Iron Horse', 'Arrowsmith', 'Men Without Women', 'Four Sons', and Pilgrimage'"; "From the story 'Patrol' by Philip MacDonald") starring Victor McLaglen, Boris Karloff, Wallace Ford, Reginald Denny, J.M. Kerrigan, Billy Bevan (one of the better Charlie Chaplin imitators of the time), Alan Hale Sr., Brandon Hurst, Douglas Walton, Sammy Stein, Howard Wilson, and Paul Hanson. Note that Sammy Stein was a professional football player in the NFL, playing there between 1929 and 1932. He then became a professional wrestler, and he then became a movie actor, appearing in 58 movies, almost always playing a bad guy, often a crook or an outlaw cowboy (likely one of the very few Jewish cowboys ever!). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this first release title card is incredibly rare! We have only auctioned it once before. Probably part of the rarity is due to the movie being quickly re-released in 1939 (and the 1939 title card is different from this title card, so even though this card is undated, we are 100% certain it is the 1934 original). Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. What IS gelbacking? Learn More Condition: good to very good. The card had pinholes and smudges around the edges, with some tiny dot stains scattered in the card, more so in the white letters of the title. Overall, the card was in good to very good condition prior to restoration. A talented restorer gel backed the card (meaning they backed the card onto a gel material) and they then performed excellent restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, so that the card still exactly looks and feels like an original card (and it is!), with no backing at all. You can see slight signs of the restoration in the letters of the title, but the card displays really well from a reasonable viewing distance. Learn More about condition grades
