A Linenbacked Danish Travel Poster (measures 24 3/4" x 39" [63 x 99 cm]) (Learn More)

SAS: South America, the 1950s or 1960s (see below) Danish airline aviation airplane travel poster promoting travel to South America via Scandinavian Airlines Systems. Note that this poster features great colorful artwork of a pair of cranes by Otto Nielsen. Also, note that like many airline travel posters, this artwork was re-used and determining the exact date can be difficult. Luckily, the airplane shown on the posters help to date them! SAS posters with prop planes (often a Douglas DC-6) are generally from the 1950s while jets are from the 1960s.
Artist: Otto Nielsen

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. After the poster was backed, it was roughly handled, and there is an area in the top right corner that is "lifting" from the linen, and there is a 1" clean tear 3" from the top right corner. Any restorer or talented amateur could re-glue that area without re-backing the poster, and then the poster will display wonderfully.
