An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Man Who Played Square, the 1924 Alfred Santell (billed as "Al Santell") silent romantic gold mining cowboy western ("Story by William Wallace Cook"; about co-owners of a goldmine who have a dispute, and in a fight both mortally wound the other; one of them survives long enough to sign over half his interest to his best friend, and the other half to his partner's daughter, and after many adventures, the friend ends up marrying the daughter, so they get the entire gold mine!) starring Buck Jones, Ben Hendricks Jr., David Kirby, Hank Mann, Howard Foster, and Wanda Hawley. Note that Buck Jones' white horse was named Silver (just like The Lone Ranger's later on!), and Silver made 73 movies with Buck Jones from 1922 until Jones' death in 1942 in the tragic Cocoanut Grove fire. But oddly, Silver was almost never billed on the posters for Buck Jones' movies as so many other famous horses (most especially Tom Mix's Tony) were! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at the top crossfold and tiny paper loss at the other two crossfolds. It had some tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss on small parts of the foldlines, and some pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
