An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) The Big Sleep, the classic 1946 Howard Hawks romantic crime film noir ("The picture they were born for!"; "A Warner hit!!!"; "From the novel by Raymond Chandler"; "Screen Play by William Faulkner, Leigh Brackett & Jules Furthman") starring Humphrey Bogart (as Philip Marlowe), Lauren Bacall, John Ridgely, Martha Vickers, Dorothy Malone, Louis Jean Heydt, Charles Waldron, Charles D. Brown, Bob Steele, Tom Fadden, Ben Welden, and Sonia Darrin. Note that not only did this movie have the direction of Howard Hawks and the great star power of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, but it also had the brilliant Raymond Chandler source novel, and a screenplay written by three great writers: Faulkner, Brackett, and Furthman! The poster had a fine line of paper loss in the middle half of the top horizontal foldline (fortunately, this falls almost entirely in the white and red background). There was tiny paper loss at the other two crossfolds. There were creases and tiny tears in the vertical foldline between the top and bottom crossfolds, but fortunately no paper loss, other than at the crossfolds. There was a thin 1" wide area of paper loss near the middle of the inside of the "C" of "BACALL". There were many pinholes in the corners and some in the middle of each border. There were three oval-shaped water stains in the white background area below the title. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The person who backed the poster pretty much just backed it "as is", onto a thin linen. If I owned this classic poster, I would immediately have it removed from its current backing, and properly re-backed. Since there really is not much wrong with the poster, and since the defects are almost exclusively in very unimportant areas, the poster after re-backing will look fantastic, and it truthfully will have little restoration!
