Der Golem, Wie er in die Welt Kam (released in the U.S. in 1921 as "The Golem"), the classic 1920 Carl Boese & Paul Wegener German silent fantasy horror thriller (written by Paul Wegener and Henrik Galeen) starring Paul Wegener (in the title role as the Golem), Albert Steinruck (as the Rabbi who creates the Golem), Lyda Salmonova, Ernst Deutsch, Hans Sturm, and Max Kronert

Important Added Info: Note that U.S. first release items from this classic German horror movie are perhaps as rare as first release German items! In all our years of auctioning, we have never auctioned a lobby card or poster from the U.S. release of this movie, and we have auctioned one still, which was a key book still, and it showed Steinruck in his outdoor observatory, and it sold for $775. Now we have been consigned this second still, which unlike the key book still, which had no writing on the front at all, has the title at the bottom center. It may be quite a while before we are consigned a third first release U.S. item! Note that this still was consigned to us by legendary collector/dealer Marty Davis! Marty was hired in 1972 to evaluate the entire collection of W. Ward Marsh (1893-1971), who was the film critic for the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper from 1919, until his retirement in 1970. In 1919 Marsh wrote his first of 23,000 movie reviews for the Plain Dealer. Marsh died less than a year after his retirement in 1970. His library, and photographic and memorabilia archives were given to the proprietor of Cleveland's finest bookstore. Marty Davis was the first person with a background in film history and collectibles to examine the archives. He worked for three to four hours a day, for six months, and his compensation was his pick of the archives. This still is from the W. Ward Marsh archives, and it was stamped on the back by Marty Davis to indicate that it came from this legendary collection.

Condition: very good. There is tiny paper loss in the center of the top blank border, with tiny surface paper loss to the left of that. There is very minor wear in the rest of the borders (see our images). Note that there are white areas in the borders that are not any sort of defect. They are there because the frame of the movie was blown up, and that was part of the film.
