Date Sold 8/4/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Key Book (measures 8 1/2" x 11 1/2" [22 x 29 cm]; 24 pages) (Learn More) Buck Jones was the great cowboy western star who also was one of William Fox's top cowboy actors in the 1920s, before he switched to Columbia, where he became their leading star in the 1930s. He made scores of westerns, and early in his career he also appeared in many non-cowboy roles. When he first started making movies, he was billed as "Charles Gebhart" (which was his real name). In the middle 1910s, his billing changed to "Buck Gebhart", and it was not until early 1920 that he became "Buck Jones" (sometimes billed as either "Charles Jones" or "Charles 'Buck' Jones"). Some of his movies include: Lazybones, Empty Saddles, and The Phantom Ride. He was still making movies when he died tragically in the Coconut Grove nightclub fire in 1942. He was 50 years old. Important Added Info: Note that some of the movies included in this key book are ones where John Wayne was a supporting actor very early in his career. If you look closely at our images, you will see John Wayne there! Also note that we have auctioned hundreds of "key book" stills that were removed from bound volumes, but this is only the seventh time we have ever had an actual real entire key book! This one is different from most key books, in that they normally only contain stills from a specific movie, but this contains stills from multiple Buck Jones movies, and each of them are the special kind of key books that have eight images from the movie with text in the center of them, and a full description of each movie on the back of each one (see our images). Collectors who obtained these would take all of the stills out and sell them individually, so certainly very, very few complete key books survive! Note: We have 14 images of the items in this set, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 14 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 4. Condition: very good. See our images to get a good sense of the condition of this item.
