A Linenbacked French Travel Poster (measures 29" x 41 1/2" [74 x 105 cm]) (Learn More)

Gorges Du Tarn, the circa 1920s French railway railroad train travel poster (with taglines that translate to "Circular travel. Free movement cards. Holiday tickets") encouraging people to use the Chemins de fer du Midi railway to visit the Gorges Du Tarn area. Gorges Du Tarn is a canyon formed by the Tarn river in southern France. The Chemins de fer du Midi was an early French railway company which operated a network of routes in the southwest of the country. Note that this poster features Clement Quinton artwork of the Chateau de la Caze hotel overlooking the gorge and the Le Pas-de-Soucy scenic view area
Artist: d'apres Clement Quinton
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this French travel poster! Also note that this poster reuses the Clement Quinton art from the first printing of this poster, but because it was not the first time the art was used, the poster designer added "d'apres", to signify that.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. Many years ago, it was mounted onto a thin linen with no excess. It is difficult to say whether its defects were acquired before or after it was backed, but it now has many small tears around the edges. It also has some light brown stains scattered on the back of the bottom of the thin linen, with a few in the rest of the linen. If I owned this cool poster, I would surely immediately have it removed from the old linen and properly backed, but bear this in mind before bidding.
