An Original 1956 (from the first release of this movie in Germany) Vintage Theatrical Folded German "A1" Movie Poster (measures 23" x 33" [58 x 84 cm]) (Learn More) Les Grandes Manoeuvres (released in the U.S. in 1956 as "The Grand Maneuver"), the 1955 Rene Clair French/Italian gambling romantic comedy farce (set during the first World War, about a very handsome army officer who bets his friends that he can make the next woman who enters the room fall in love with him, and of course, a beautiful woman comes in, and of course, he intends to seduce her and leave her, but it doesn't work out that way!) starring Michele Morgan, Gerard Philipe, Jean Desailly, Pierre Dux, Jacques Francois, Yves Robert, and Brigitte Bardot (early in her career, and seventh billed!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Meerwald Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this poster, and it has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still the only example of this poster we have ever auctioned! Also note that because the movie was not released in Germany until a year after it was made, Brigitte Bardot was third billed on the German poster and was prominently pictured, because her star had risen so dramatically over the past year! Condition: fair. The poster has a very unusual defect that we have seen on several non-U.S. posters over the years. It has a "grid" pattern over the entire poster, resulting in light squares of discoloration throughout the poster, and there are pencil marks over the center of the discolored areas. One possible reason for this would be that the poster was displayed behind some kind of "chicken wire"-like fence or screen, but that wouldn't explain the pencil lines. Another possibility is that it was done intentionally so that the poster could be recreated in a much larger size (with the artist recreating each small square in a larger size. Whatever the answer is, this is definitely a very significant defect. However, the poster CAN still be displayed and enjoyed, but bear in mind this very significant defect (and look at our super-sized image) before bidding on it. Learn More about condition grades
