Newmeyer & Sam Taylor silent romantic action family comedy (about a very shy tailor who wants to write a guidebook to help himself and others, called "The Secret of Making Love", and the movie shows fantasy sequences of chapters of the book; in real life, he meets a rich girl and she loves him, but she is about to be married, and he goes to great lengths to stop the wedding!) starring Harold Lloyd, Jobyna Ralston, Richard Daniels, Carlton Griffin, and Sammy Brooks NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare complete set of 12 English 8x10 lobby cards for this 1924 movie! Virtually no English 8x10 lobby cards from this period survive, and offered here is a complete set! It includes the bag they came in (someone crossed out the "12" on the bag and wrote "10", probably because they were thinking about taking two out, but they must have not done it (or later returned them), because all twelve are present. Note that this auction also includes the printed envelope this item originally came with! Also note that, in the early days of movie making, when lobby cards were first made (around 1915), studios would issue sets of the cards in two sizes; the regular 11" x 14" size, and a smaller 8" x 10" size. The cards were identical in every way except for the different size. This practice continued through the early 1920s, at which point the studios abandoned the smaller lobby cards, likely because theaters either ordered 11" x 14" lobby cards or 8" x 10" stills, and did not order enough of the 8" x 10" lobby cards to justify them continuing to make them. Condition: good to very good. A number of the cards have light water staining around the edges and a few have water staining within the image. Some do not have water staining. Otherwise, they are generally in nice condition, with tiny pinholes in the blank corners. See our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of these cards.
