An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie 8" x 11" [20 x 28 cm] Key Book Still (Learn More) Empty Hands, the 1924 Victor Fleming silent Canada romantic melodrama ("From the novel by Arthur Stringer"; about a wild daughter of a rich man who gets in trouble and her father takes her on a hunting trip in the Canadian Northwest; she goes fishing and her canoe capsizes, and her father's engineer rescues her, but they are lost together, and although they detest each other initially, one thing leads to another, and by the time they are rescued, they are madly in love) starring Jack Holt, Norma Shearer (she was 22!), Charles Clary, Hazel Keener, and Gertrude Olmstead. We are not sure what the 'empty hands' of the title refers to, but we have seen a glass slide which is just a close up of a man's hands, so surely it refers to some key plot point. If anyone knows, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. Important Added Info: Note that this great key book still shows Norma Shearer looking through binoculars at Jack Holt partially dressed like a Latin lover. One does not think of Jack Holt as the type to participate in silly candids like this! Also note that this still is a key book still, mounted to a linen backing. Many studios spent extra money to have their most special photos, the key book stills, either backed with linen or printed on a heavy paper, both of which enhanced their durability. They had an extra 1" at the left or top, with punch holes, because of how they were stored. Key book stills are far more rare than regular stills, which has increased their popularity among collectors, since only a few keybooks were manufactured per film, and a key book still is guaranteed to be authentic.
