A 1970 Re-Release Theatrical Linenbacked English Double Crown Movie Poster (DC; measures 20" x 30" [51 x 76 cm]) (Learn More) Chelsea Girls, the 1966 Paul Morrissey & Andy Warhol New York City art house avant-garde melodrama (the film follows various residents of the legendary Chelsea Hotel in 1966 New York City, presented in a split screen with a single audio track in conjunction with one side of screen) starring Brigid Berlin, Randy Borscheidt, Christian Paffgen, Angelina 'Pepper' Davis, Dorothy Dean, Nico, Edie Sedgwick, International Velvet, and Mary Woronov. Note that the first release poster for this movie is as famous or more famous than the movie itself. It has an image created by Alan Aldridge that incorporates a very sexy naked girl with portions of the Chelsea Hotel, and is extremely "eye catching". Andy Warhol was extremely happy with the design, and he said he "wished the movie was as good as the poster"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that until December of 2017, we at eMoviePoster.com had never auctioned this iconic poster! The one we auctioned then sold for $2,400. One of our consignors saw that result and sent us another example in April of 2018, and it sold for $1,950! We were consigned a third example in 2022, and that one was mounted to a heavy board (which made it only "fair to good" condition), and it sold for $927. Now we have been consigned a fourth example, which is linenbacked. Also, note that when this movie was first shown in 1966, Alan Aldridge created a spectacular sexy poster image for the movie. Because it only played in a very limited number of theaters, very few posters were created. We do not know of any examples of that poster that have been auctioned or have been offered for sale, and it may be that none exist. In 1970, "Motif Editions" created this poster. Some say it was created and sold by Aldridge as a limited edition (and there are some examples known signed by Aldridge), and others say that there was a theatrical showing of the movie that caused the creation of the 1970 version of the poster. We can find no conclusive evidence to say for certain whether it is a theatrical re-release or an art print, so we are describing it as a "movie poster", but it is equally possible that it is an art print of the movie poster. Also note that this item contains some nudity, so we have placed a white bar over those areas for those who are bothered by such images. Of course, the actual item does not have the white bars. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had creases and scuffs scattered throughout, with some tiny bits of paper loss, more so around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
