An Original Vintage Japanese Campaign Book (measures 6" x 8 1/4" [15 x 21 cm]; 84 pages) (Learn More) Toho 1962, the Japanese export campaign book ("Hit Toho pix screened the world over!") made in 1962 by the Toho Films company to let U.S. theaters know what Japanese movies they had available for export! The book contains 33 different movies, some of which were newly made, but many of which dated back as far as a few years, surely because many of these movies, even the most classic ones, had received slight or no distribution in the U.S., and the Toho company knew there was a great potential market for them throughout the U.S. Each of the movies receives two pages with cast information and a plot synopsis, together with images from the movie, and several of them are in color. Included are many of Toho's greatest movies, including Mothra, Sanjuro, Yojimbo, and many more, including an ad for Touring the World, The Top-Heavy Frog, and Sparrow in a Gourd, three early Japanese anime. There are also two-page spreads for Akira Kurosawa and Toshiro Mifune, plus two pages on "honored documentary films", and much more! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this wonderful Japanese export campaign book! Condition: good to very good. There is small paper loss in the bottom right corner of the front cover, with a diagonal crease in that area. There are two pages that have a word written across much of the page (it is the same word, so it is likely something a theater owner did, like saying that those two movies were not available). In spite of these defects, this extremely rare book certainly has many wonderful ads that are in nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
