An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Lost Horizon, the classic 1937 Frank Capra Shangri-La romantic fantasy religious mystery adventure melodrama ("Might spectacle of human emotions"; "Frank Capra's mightiest production becomes the greatest entertainment in all screen history!"; "Mightiest of all motion pictures!"; "Frank Capra's Greatest Production"; "Columbia's great Adventure of Tibet"; "James Hilton's immortal novel becomes epic entertainment!"; "From the novel by James Hilton"; "Screen Play by Robert Riskin"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about a plane with a group of very different English passengers, including two brothers, that crash lands in the Himalayas, and they find a group of Tibetan monks who live in a peaceful paradise where everyone seems to live forever, but will they stay, or will they try to return to England?) starring Ronald Colman (as Robert Conway), ("and a notable cast" including) Jane Wyatt, John Howard (as George Conway), Margo (as Maria), Thomas Mitchell, Edward Everett Horton, Isabel Jewell, H.B. Warner (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Chang), and Sam Jaffe (as the "High Lama")

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that because this novel was so famous, and because Frank Capra and Ronald Colman were such major stars in 1937, Columbia issued this text one-sheet promoting this most classic movie, feeling the names alone would sell the movie. A long time friend of Capra's tells us that Capra told him that Columbia started to second guess their decision, and they then commissioned James Montgomery Flagg to create a special artwork one-sheet, and they also made the other artwork posters! Obviously, one would prefer one of the artwork posters, but this text poster (with its cool deco design) is likely to be the only affordable alternative for most collectors, and it is an extremely rare poster!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had a circular area of paper loss at the middle crossfold and creases, tears, and areas of paper loss down the entire center of the poster. There were around a dozen very tiny circular scattered throughout the poster, but they were not at all noticeable. There were creases, tears, and areas of paper loss in the right 4" of the bottom foldline extending into the bottom of the "N" of "HORIZON". There were some creases, tears, and tiny areas of paper loss on the rest of the horizontal foldlines, but far less than on the vertical foldline. There were some creases, tears, and areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed. You can see signs of the restoration of the above defects from close up, but from any reasonable viewing distance, they are not very distracting. The new owner of this poster could have additional restoration performed, but I would think most people would be happy to display it on their wall just as it is!
