An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Argentinean Movie Poster (measures 28 3/4" x 43" [73 x 109 cm]) (Learn More)

El Rey de los Gorilas (literally translates to "King of the Gorillas"), the 1977 Rene Cardona Jr. Mexican jungle adventure melodrama (about a scientific expedition in Africa, leaving only an infant who is raised by apes, and grows up and becomes the head of their tribe, and he becomes a local legend, "the White Ape", and Europeans hear of him, and send an expedition to find him) starring Hugo Stiglitz (as "Ape"), Peggy Bass, Jorge Graham, Martin Espinosa, and Aurelio Sparrow. It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. If the above plot summary sounds extremely familiar, it is because it is largely the plot of the first half of the 1914 novel, "Tarzan of the Apes", by Edgar Rice Burroughs! But oddly, it is more faithful to that novel than any of the licensed adaptations made between 1918 and the present day! The movie was completely unlicensed (and was filmed entirely in Mexico, which explains the lack of elephants, which are not native to Mexico), and it being unlicensed explains why the name Tarzan does not appear in the movie (or on the posters), and we imagine there were lawsuits against it. If anyone knows more about any of this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
