An Undated (probably 1941) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Navy Blue and Gold: The Love Story of Annapolis, the 1937 Sam Wood Maryland romantic love triangle military Navy U.S. Naval Academy comedy ("The Love Story of Annapolis!"; a story of three plebes at the Naval academy, and their struggles to graduate and find romance too; sort of a 1937 version of "An Officer and a Gentleman") starring James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart), Robert Young, Lionel Barrymore, Florence Rice, Billie Burke, Tom Brown, Samuel S. Hinds, Paul Kelly, and Barnett Parker. Note that in the 1920s and 1930s, you could only get into Annapolis by getting an appointment from a congressman or senator, and you needed 20/20 vision, so it was a very exclusive place to go, and also while at the academy, students could not be married, so there would often be dozens of weddings the day after graduation, because their girlfriends had become pregnant! This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had very minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were well restored, OR it had some minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had a fairly large area of paper loss at the top crossfold. There was a large oval-shaped area of paper loss at the middle crossfold extending into the woman's cheek. There were large areas of paper loss in the centers of the top and bottom blank borders and some other tears and paper loss in the vertical foldline. The horizontal folds had some separation and tiny paper loss, and the borders had tears, pinholes, and creases. The poster was really expertly linenbacked, and the missing area in the center of the image was so well replaced, that I doubt hardly anyone would see it, except on the closest of inspection. Overall, the poster looks really nice, even though it has had a lot of restoration down the center of the poster! Learn More about condition grades
