A Linenbacked German Special Poster (measures 11 3/4" x 16 1/2" [30 x 42 cm]) (Learn More) The German Grand Prix (Grosser Preis von Deutschland) was a motor race that was held since 1926. The race has been held at only three venues throughout its history; the Nurburgring, Hockenheimring and occasionally AVUS. The race continued to be known as the German Grand Prix, even through the era when the race was held in West Germany. Because West Germany was prevented from taking part in international events in the immediate post-war period, the German Grand Prix only became part of the Formula One World Championship in 1951. Important Added Info: Note that we have only auctioned this German poster once before, and that poster has been reconsigned to us, so it is still the only example of this poster we have auctioned! Also note that this 1955 race was canceled in the aftermath of the Le Mans disaster which took place on June 11th and resulted in 83 spectators being killed by flying debris during a crash. All auto racing in Germany (and much of Europe) was banned until the tracks could be upgraded, so this great poster is for a race that never happened. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had small paper loss in the bottom of the right blank border. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking.
