A Set of 10 2021 "Faux" Lobby Cards (measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]; see below) (Learn More) The Wicker Man, the classic 1974 Robin Hardy English cult fantasy pagan religion melodrama ("Flesh to touch... Flesh to burn! Don't keep the Wicker Man waiting!"; "The residents of Summerisle invited Sergeant Howie to their traditional May Day festival. He didn't expect to meet... The Wicker Man"; "A totally corrupt shocker from the author of 'Sleuth' and 'Frenzy'!"; "Anthony Shaffer's incredible occult thriller"; "An island lost to unspeakable terrors of pagan rituals!"; about a police investigation involving a neo-pagan society on a remote Scottish isle, and their possible use of human sacrifice) starring Edward Woodward, Britt Ekland, Diane Cilento, Ingrid Pitt, and Christopher Lee ("as Lord Summerisle"). Note that this English film has a confusing history! Studio executives did not know how to market the film, and it was heavily-edited and released in England as part of a double-bill in 1974 (after a test screening in December of 1973). After Roger Corman declined to purchase the U.S. release rights, Warner Brothers did so and released the film to drive-in theaters in May and then shelved it in August. In 1977, Abraxas bought the U.S. rights, restored some of the edited footage and showed the film to theater owners (and perhaps had a single theatrical showing in New Orleans). We have never seen posters for this and likely none were created. In 1978, Summerisle Films sub-leased the movie from Abraxas and premiered it at the Telluride Film Festival before giving it a limited release in late 1978 and 1979. Summerisle Films went out of business in 1979 and Dynamite Entertainment and Abraxas gave the film another re-release in 1980 (with a one-sheet very similar to the Summerisle Films one-sheet). WHAT ARE THESE? Starting in 2021 a long time collector who (like so many of us) chose to stay home that year a lot due to Covid, and he made many faux lobby sets like this to help pass the time! He was inspired by the "Fantasy #9" lobby cards created several decades ago, each of which is from a classic horror/sci-fi movie, showing a great scene that wasn't in the original set! He created those sets using top images from each film! He did not make them through a computer program, but instead pasted together actual prints to create mock-ups. On most of these he made 8 card sets, but on some of them he created sets with odd quantities (as low as 4, and as high as 26 cards!). He then printed just THREE of each set, and he promised not to reprint them (and he has not). He numbered the first card in each set, and what we offered was the "1 of 3" of each set, which meant there are only two other sets of each, and there will never be more of those. SINCE 2021, OUR CONSIGNOR HAS MADE MORE SETS THREE TIMES, AND IN EACH CASE WE AUCTIONED THE "1/3" OF EACH SET. BUT NOW, OUR CONSIGNOR HAS SENT US 52 OF THE PAST SETS, BUT THESE ARE "2/3" (and we are auctioning them in 52 separate auctions). So in every case, we previously auctioned the 1/3 of each of these sets, and now we are auctioning the 2/3, so since our consignor told us that he is keeping the 3/3 of each set, then that means this is everyone's last chance to purchase one of these sets (unless he later decides to auction the set he kept for himself). So the winner of this auction has just one of three of these numbered sets that were created! REMEMBER THAT OUR CONSIGNOR PROMISES TO NEVER REPRINT THESE! So once again this is a great chance to get any of these really cool faux lobby sets! Condition: fine. These faux lobby cards are in excellent condition! Learn More about condition grades
