By Whose Hand (also released as "Who Killed Simon Baird?"), the 1916 James Durkin silent romantic inventor murder mystery melodrama ("Greatest of modern problem plays"; about a young man who runs a rich man's estate, and he falls in love with the rich man's daughter, but the rich man won't consent unless he has $10,000, and the young man has an invention that he tries to get another rich man to invest in, and the second rich man is murdered, and the young man is the obvious suspect, but it turns out everyone has a motive for killing him!) starring Edna Wallace Hopper, Charles J. Ross, Muriel Ostriche, Nicholas Dunaew, John Webb Dillon (as Simon Baird), and J.H. Ryley. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.
