Date Sold 8/7/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Torchy Blane in Chinatown, the 1939 William Beaudine female mystery reporter crime thriller (based on characters created by Frederick Nebel; Original story "The Purple Hieroglyph", one of a series featuring the same main character, by Murray Leinster) starring Glenda Farrell (in the title role as Torchy Blane), Barton MacLane, Henry O'Neill, Patric Knowles, and Tom Kennedy. Note that the first Torchy Blane movie was made in 1937, called "Smart Blonde", and it starred Glenda Farrell in the lead role. There were a total of nine Torchy Blane movies. Farrell played the lead in seven of them. In two of the ones near the end of the series, Jane Wyman and Lola Lane filled in for Farrell, perhaps because she had other commitments. The series only lasted for two years, but was quite popular. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we auctioned this card six years ago, and it was this very same card that has been re-consigned to us, so it is still the only example of this card we have only auctioned! This was printed by Associated Displays Corporation which was a company based in New York City. Before it was discovered by noted poster dealer/historian Walter Reuben, collectors did not know the name of this company (and thought it to be located in the Midwest), and it is often referred to as the "other company" (and we will continue to refer to it that way, since collectors know it that way). From 1936 to roughly 1941, this company printed its own one-sheets and lobby card sets (and a very few inserts, half-sheets, three-sheets, 40x60s and stills) for three major studio movies (Warner Brothers, Paramount and United Artists, but no other studios). The items almost always feature a tiny legal disclaimer and cast credits only. The posters and lobby cards are from the original release of the movie, and almost always have completely different artwork from the regular studio release. They did this by combining elements from different film scenes onto one poster or card. Sometimes, "other company" posters have images that are the equal of those from the regular studio release posters. Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good to very good. There are a few scuffs in the image, including one in Farrell's cheek and one in her credit. There are tiny staple holes in the corners. There is a piece of paper tape on the back of the center of the top border, but it was not put there for any restoration purpose. Learn More about condition grades
