An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 7 3/4" x 9 3/4" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

The Big House, the 1930 George W. Hill romantic crime prison escape melodrama ("A Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer All Talking Picture"; "Story and dialogue by Frances Marion"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about a playboy who is sentenced to jail for drunk driving and he gets involved with the two tough leaders of the convicts, and he is killed during a huge breakout from the prison, but one of the leaders saves the warden's life and wins the love of the playboy's sister) starring Chester Morris, Wallace Beery (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Lewis Stone, Robert Montgomery, and Leila Hyams. Note that this wasn't the first of the "big" 1930s gangster movies, but it was hugely successful, and it opened the door for the many great movies that soon followed, including "Little Caesar", "Public Enemy", "Scarface", and so many more. Wallace Beery's character was based on Al Capone, but since he was still around in 1930, they gave the character several significant differences. Also note that the following year, Laurel & Hardy parodied this movie in their film "Pardon Us"!

Important Added Info: Note that this still measures 7 3/4" x 9 3/4" [20 x 25 cm], but it has not been trimmed. Also note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock.

Condition: good. The still was used in a newspaper or magazine and there are faint crop marks around the figures of the stars and paint enhancements within the image (so it would show up better in the printed article), but the above are mostly only noticeable when the still is tilted to the light. There is a tiny bit of surface paper loss in the top center of Morris' hair.
