An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Man-Made Monster, the 1941 George Waggner Universal science fiction (sci-fi) horror thriller ("Based on the story entitled 'The Electric Man' by H.J. Essex, Sid Schwartz and Len Golos") starring Lionel Atwill, Anne Nagel, Frank Albertson, Samuel S. Hinds, Lon Chaney Jr. (Chaney is billed last on posters, in spite of him being the star of the movie, but his credit is much larger than those who come before him), and Russell Hicks. Note that Lon Chaney Jr.'s career, despite his famous father, had been pretty much going nowhere in the 1930s. In 1939, he gave a wonderful performance as Lenny in "Of Mice and Men", which gained him much acclaim, but did not lead to better parts. This was his first starring role in a Universal horror movie, and later the same year, he was given the lead in "The Wolf Man", which became his signature role, and which he reprised several times over the 1940s! Important Added Info: Note that we previously auctioned this title card (which we had only auctioned one time before that, and that was 20 years ago), and the person who purchased this has re-consigned it. So it is still only the second title card we have auctioned, because we are re-auctioning one of the two that we previously sold. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good to very good. There is a tiny tear in the left of the bottom border that has a piece of yellowed tape on the front and back of that area. There is a pinhole in the top blank border and one in the bottom center background area. There are some faint smudges and stains around the edges, with a crease near the middle of the left top border in the left half of the card. There is tiny surface paper loss near the middle of the left blank border. The image area is in pretty nice condition. Certainly, one could choose to have restoration performed to the border defects described above, but I would think many collectors would be happy to display this very rare card as it is, since the border defects will not show if the card is framed.
