An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Rex Ingram's Scaramouche, the 1923 Rex Ingram silent French Revolution romantic melodrama ("For love of a woman and to avenge a friend!"; based on the novel "By Rafael Sabatini"; about a young Frenchman whose best friend is killed, and he decides to avenge his death; to discover the details of the killing, he becomes a clown called "Scaramouche"!) starring Ramon Novarro (in the title role as Scaramouche), Alice Terry, Lewis Stone (who plays a different role in the 1952 version of Scaramouche!), Julia Swayne Gordon, and Lloyd Ingraham NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning! Note also that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Note that this poster is very unusual in that it was created by combining two examples of the original poster! See below for exactly hos this was done, and also know that there are two other posters like this in this auction, and those two have this same paragraph on them. All three are incredibly rare! Condition: good. The person who owned this owned two examples of this poster! One of them had 3" trimmed from the bottom, and fortunately the other had much damage to the upper area, but the bottom 11" was in pretty nice condition, although it had some darkening in the top of that area. They came up with an unusual way to deal with this. They trimmed off the bottom 11" from the one that had no damage in that area and simply attached it to the front of the other poster by attaching it with tape from the back. So there is 11" of a second poster laying on top of the bottom 8" of the poster that was missing 3" from the bottom! Both posters had been folded vertically and had some darkening and separation along the folds (and in the top 3" of the attached bottom piece), but were otherwise in pretty nice condition, especially considering the age of the posters. Someone put tape on the back of the other areas of the separation, but otherwise did no restoration. One could certainly simply display this incredibly rare poster as it is or one might choose to have a professional restorer separate the two posters and then properly paperback them together. This IS a complete poster, although it was made from two different posters as explained above. Learn More about condition grades
