An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style D One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) White Cargo, the 1942 Richard Thorpe British-in-Africa plantation romantic love triangle interracial romantic melodrama ("I Am Tondelayo!"; "From the stage play by Leon Gordon"; "Based on a novel by Ida Vera Simonton") starring Hedy Lamarr ("as Tondelayo"), Walter Pidgeon, Frank Morgan, Richard Carlson, Reginald Owen, and Henry O'Neill. Note that this was a notorious play from the 1920s that was toned down greatly for its Hollywood adaptation (most notably the title character was black in the original play, but became Egyptian/Arab in the movie). Important Added Info: Note that the one-sheets from this movie are very scarce (I would take a guess that they were favorites of soldiers in World War II, given the large sexy image of Hedy Lamarr!). We have only auctioned the style C one-sheet twice before, and we only auctioned this style B one-sheet once before, and that was in 2014, and this is the very same poster which has been reconsigned to us, so it is still the only example of this poster we have auctioned! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and some creases, scuffs, and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of some foldlines. It had paper loss in the center of the top border, slightly extending into the yellow background, and smaller paper loss 6" to the right of that. It had pinholes and some small paper loss in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Note that the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster. Learn More about condition grades
