(literally translates to "Electricity Man Speaks: First Good Light!"), the circa 1920s German poster promoting the use of electricity and featuring an anthropomorphic electrical cord and a woman enjoying a well-lit kitchen. Electrification didn't make it into German homes in a big way until the 1920s. Whereas only about 5% of Berlin's homes boasted electric power in 1914, this figure had risen to 25% eleven years later and to 50% by the end of the decade. This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? It had small stains scattered through parts of the yellow background, more so in the top right, with some staining in the top right blue area. It had some smudges and scuffs scattered throughout. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
