eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result Lot #: 192 GRAND POPULAR ENTERTAINMENT framed special poster 1896 Date Sold 12/1/1997Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. Appears in Hollywood & Early Cinema Posters CATALOG SOLD OUT The image at right appears in the auction catalog we published as shown above and was sold long ago and we do NOT have it available for purchase. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Special Poster (Learn More) Grand Popular Entertainment, the circa 1896 stock poster ("Don't fail... to take advantage of this opportunity. Bring children and friends..."; "Consisting of life-size motion pictures projected upon a large screen by means of that most wonderful of all modern inventions."; "The Edison Moving Picture Machine"; "The views will consist of a fine selection of subjects of popular interest and will be fully explained in an interesting lecture"), advertising Edison Company movie shows and featuring images of Thomas Edison's Kinetoscope! Obviously, this poster is from the birth of moving pictures, and since it refers to both "life-size motion pictures" and "the Edison Moving Picture Machine", we would think this surely is advertising actual movies, as opposed to magic lantern exhibitions of slides (although there is a separate "panoramic exhibition of high grade Magic Lantern views" advertised in the bottom left of the poster as well). This poster is wonderfully historic and seems like it should be in a museum! If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
