A Set of 9 2021 "Faux" Lobby Cards (measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]; see below) (Learn More)

The Maltese Falcon, the classic 1941 John Huston romantic detective crime film noir ("A story as explosive as his blazing automatics"; "Based on the novel by Dashiell Hammett, Author of 'The Thin Man'"; "Screen Play by John Huston"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Humphrey Bogart (as Sam Spade), Mary Astor (as Brigid O'Shaughnessy), Gladys George (as Iva Archer), Peter Lorre (as Joel Cairo), Barton MacLane (as Lt. Dundy), Lee Patrick (as Effie), Sydney Greenstreet (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Kasper Gutman), Ward Bond (as Tom Polhaus), Jerome Cowan (as Miles Archer), and Elisha Cook Jr. (as Wilmer Cook, the "gunsel"). Note that this was the SECOND re-make of this movie (it had been made in 1931 under the original title, and in 1936 as "Satan Met a Lady", starring Bette Davis in the lead role, but it was THIS version by John Huston, with his screenplay that closely followed the Dashiell Hammett novel, with superlative acting, which is an all-time classic) Note that some of the U.S. posters for this movie used images of Bogart from the 1941 film "High Sierra" (the same is true of some posters for "All Through the Night"!). Note that in all three of these movies (The Maltese Falcon, All Through the Night, and High Sierra), Humphrey Bogart only got the lead part because George Raft turned down the lead in all three!

Important Added Info: Note that this is one of 41 "faux" lobby card sets we were consigned, which we are auctioning in 41 separate auctions! WHAT ARE THESE? We were consigned 68 similar faux lobby sets (but entirely different images and titles), which were created in 2021 by a long time collector who (like so many of us) chose to stay home that year a lot due to Covid, and he made those 68 faux sets to help pass the time! He was inspired by the "Fantasy #9" lobby cards created several decades ago, each of which is from a classic horror/sci-fi movie, showing a great scene that wasn't in the original set!

He created those 68 sets, using top images from each film! He did not make them through a computer program, but instead pasted together actual prints to create mock-ups. On most of these he made 8 card sets, but on some of them he created sets with odd quantities (as low as 4, and as high as 26 cards!). He then printed just THREE of each set, and he promised not to reprint them (and he has not). He numbered the first card in each set, and what we offered was the "1 of 3" of each set, which meant there are only two other sets of each, and there will never be more of those.

Our consignor told us that he would keep one of the three sets of each, but MAY give us the remaining third set at a later time to auction. But the winner of those 68 auctions have just one of three of these numbered sets that were created! IN EARLY 2023, THE SAME CONSIGNOR CREATED 47 ADDITIONAL SETS! Those were just like the first 68 sets, except all different titles and images. We auctoined those then, and NOW, IN LATE 2023, HE HAS CREATED 41 MORE SETS AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS THE SAME! There are just three of each sets, and we are auctioning the number 1 of 3 of each set (in 41 separate auctions). AND (as with the last two groups of these he created) OUR CONSIGNOR AGAIN PROMISES TO NEVER REPRINT THESE! So once again this is a great chance to get any of these really cool faux lobby sets!

Condition: fine. The faux lobby cards are in excellent condition!
