An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Deluxe 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" [19 x 24 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Adolphe Menjou was an actor from the 1910s to the 1960s. He was born in 1890 in Pittsburgh (even though he seemed European!) to a French father and an Irish mother, and his father disapproved of show business, but while at college, Adolphe changed his major to liberal arts and started appearing in plays. He moved to New York when he was 25, but couldn't make it on Broadway, and appeared in minor movies in the middle 1910s. He served in World War I and then afterwards went behind the camera working as a production manager. In 1921, he moved to Hollywood, and got leading roles in movies and became a major star throughout the 1920s and 1930s, and then he seamlessly switched to character roles. He had a wonderful part in Paths of Glory as the slimy General Broulard near the end of his career. Some of his other movies include: Little Miss Marker, Golden Boy, The Marriage Circle, and Stage Door. He passed away in 1963 at the age of 73. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by Adolphe Menjou! Note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock and it has an embossed photographer's stamp in one of the bottom corners. Also note that this still measures 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" [19 x 24 cm], and it may have been trimmed. Our consignor is a very longtime dealer/collector who acquired this signed item in the 1970s, and kept it in his collection until now, when he is selling parts of his collection. He does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we believe the signature to likely be authentic. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good. Part of the blank borders were possibly trimmed, and there is a pinhole in each corner, but otherwise, the still is in nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
