8 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

The Grapes of Wrath, the classic 1940 John Ford (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) Depression era family-leaves-the-Dust-Bowl-to-find-a-better-life-in-California melodrama (nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; based on the classic novel by John Steinbeck; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck) starring Henry Fonda (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as Tom Joad), Jane Darwell (winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; as Ma Joad), Charley Grapewin (as Grandpa Joad), Russell Simpson (as Pa Joad), John Carradine (as Jim Casy), Dorris Bowdon (as Rose-of-Sharon Rivers, spelled as "Rosasharn" in the movie credits), Zeffie Tilbury (as Grandma Joad), Frank Darien (as Uncle John Joad), Eddie Quillan (as Connie Rivers), John Qualen (as Muley Graves), Kitty McHugh (as the diner waitress, in one of the movie's most poignant scenes), Darryl Hickman (as Winfield Joad), and Shirley Mills (as Ruthie Joad). Note that this is one of the very rare cases where a really great book is turned into a really great movie! It is not entirely faithful to the book, but it certainly captures the "spirit" of the book.

Important Added Info: Note that first release lobby cards from this most classic movie are very rare, especially the ones with the best scenes and the title card. We have only once before auctioned more than one card from this title at one time, and that was a set of four and those were in much lesser condition. We would think that the vast majority of first release sets were long ago "broken up" and sold by the card, and that would explain why a complete set from the first release is nearly impossible to find. While this set has clear condition defects, it does give collectors a chance to get a complete set all at once, something that would likely take many years to do otherwise!

Condition: good to very good. The title card has pinholes in the corners and a tape stains in the center of the bottom border with a pinhole between Fonda's eye and nose. The other cards all have pinholes in the corners and have some border wear and all the cards have a few smudges and scuffs in the image. None of them have had any restoration. Please look at our super-sized images before bidding on this extremely rare lobby card set.
