An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Room Service, the 1938 William A. Seiter hotel slapstick comedy ("Mama - those men are here again!"; The Marx Bros. are in a hotel and can't pay their bill, and they refuse to leave, with many great comic scenes) starring The Marx Brothers (Groucho Marx, Chico Marx, and Harpo Marx), Lucille Ball, Ann Miller, Frank Albertson, and Cliff Dunstan. Note that not only did this movie have the Marx Bros., but it also had Lucille Ball, who a little over a decade later would become America's favorite comedienne! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Al Hirschfeld Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had been trimmed on all four sides, and all the blank borders were missing, and a thin strip of the edge of the image on each side as well. It also had tears and some small areas of paper loss around the edges of the trimmed poster. It had some small circular and oval shaped stains scattered throughout, more so in the middle left. It also had been folded once in each direction and it had small paper loss at the crossfold, and creases and scuffs on both foldlines. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was really expertly backed, and the missing border areas were recreated well (but oddly, they used pieces of the back of other posters to recreate the blank borders, likely because that way actual poster paper was being used, and the borders appear blank during normal viewing, but under intense light, you can see that they had printing on the reverse). Overall, the poster has had much expert touch up done to the above defects, but from any reasonable viewing distance, this poster displays really nicely (and I know that most people would never realize the extent of the restoration, because it was so well done), but bear the restoration in mind before placing a bid on this cool poster.
