An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Italian Two-Panel (known in Italy as a "4 Fogli") Movie Poster (2p; measures 55" x 78" [140 x 198 cm]) (Learn More) Zaganella In China (literally translates to "Mockery in China"), the 1920s Italian poster for a silent slapstick Asian comedy starring Jimmy Aubrey. Note that we are uncertain which Jimmy Aubrey short this poster is promoting. He was quite prolific and not much is known about many of his films. We have found 1924 Italian newspaper theater ads promoting this movie, so we know it can't be anything after that date. Based on a plot summary, it may be promoting the 1923 short The Lobbygow (re-titled as "Zaganella in China"), but we cannot be certain. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: R. Francisci Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this Italian poster, and that was 13 years ago. That poster has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still the only example we have ever auctioned! Note that Jimmy Aubrey was a silent comedian who had a brief period of stardom, but who continued acting in sound movies in small roles. We could find little information about this movie but it seems quite possible that Jimmy Aubrey might have had fame in Italy, and that would explain why he was top billed. Aubrey played in no other movie with the word "China" in the title, and he never played an actor named "Zaganella", so it seems likely the poster is for this movie. In any event, it is a really cool pre-WWII Italian movie poster with a great image! If anyone knows more about what movie this poster is from, or any of the other answers to the questions posed above, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking?
