A Set of 4 Original Vintage Unfolded Special Posters (each measure 21 1/4" x 28" [54 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) The Battle Cry of Peace, the 1915 J. Stuart Blackton & A. Wilfrid North silent World War I (WWI) military fantasy science fiction future melodrama ("A call to arms against war"; "Facts based on Hudson Maxim's 'Defenceless America'"; "Vitagraph blue ribbon feature"; a fascinating and unfortunately forgotten movie; it was based on the thesis that pacifism was rising in the U.S., and that made the country ripe for being taken over by an enemy nation; in this movie, set in the near future, an enemy sends submarines up and down the east and west coasts of America, and they are able to quickly conquer all of America, because it has been made nearly defenseless due to Americans surrendering their arms!) starring Charles Richman, L. Rogers Lytton, James Morrison, Mary Maurice, Louise Beaudet, "and other eminent Vitagraph Stars". Note that in this movie, the enemy forces are ruled by a mysterious entity named "Emanon", which is "No name" backwards, and some top military people had cameos as themselves, including Admiral Dewey and General Leonard Wood (no doubt they were strong supporters of the message of the movie). The only items from this movie we have seen are a window card and a set of four special posters that are close to half-sheet size, but are vertical in orientation, and they include three portraits of the movie's stars, plus a recreation of a 1915 letter from Teddy Roosevelt, in which he talks about the message of the movie, and he also advocates that military service should be "as widespread as the right to vote", and that "freemen do their own fighting and do not hire other people to do their fighting for them"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. If it is a size that might ordinarily be rolled in a tube (like a half-sheet), the reason it is in this auction is specifically because we feel it either CAN'T be rolled or because we feel it would be a mistake to roll it, because it might well damage the item. In the case of the few items that could be rolled, we will roll the item in a tube if the new owner insists, but only if they accept that they can't return the item if it is damaged from being rolled. So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it. Condition: good to very good. The posters have some tiny tears and tiny paper loss around the edges. They may be slightly trimmed, but if so, only blank white border is affected. There are some smudges scattered in the image. Learn More about condition grades
