An Original Vintage Unfolded One-Sheet Printer's Test Movie Poster (measures 25" x 38" [64 x 97 cm]) (Learn More)

Star Wars (now known as "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope"), the classic 1977 George Lucas (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) outer space fantasy action adventure science fiction (sci-fi) epic ("A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..."; "George Lucas, the man who brought you American Graffiti now brings you an adventure as big as the cosmos itself: Star Wars, the story of a boy, a girl, and a universe. It's a spectacle light years ahead of its time from 20th Century Fox."; "Written and Directed by George Lucas"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Mark Hamill (as Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (as Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (as Princess Leia), Peter Cushing (as Grand Moff Tarkin), Alec Guinness (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Obi-Wan Kenobi), Anthony Daniels (as C-3PO), James Earl Jones (as the voice of Darth Vader), David Prowse (billed as "Dave Prowse"; as the man inside the Darth Vader suit!), Peter Mayhew (as Chewbacca), Kenny Baker (as R2-D2), and Phil Brown (as Uncle Owen)

Important Added Info: Note that this poster is a REAL oddity! It appears to surely be a printer's test for the famed "birthday cake" poster that was issued in 1978. But the non-printer's test versions of that poster measure 27" x 41", and this poster measures 25" x 38", including the area with the color bars at right, which are flush to the image, and there is no printing in the bottom border, and yet it has a blank border, which has some printer's test marks on it, and the edges of the image background are more closely cropped than they are in the final poster, which explains why it measures smaller, because it has less background and less white border. We would think that this test poster was created to show everyone involved what it looked like, and that they didn't worry about the size, because it was only a test. But this is "guesswork", so please do not bid no this poster unless you can accept these uncertainties as to what it is and exactly what it is from. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. This is a very rare uncut printer's test poster (often referred to as a "printer's proof")! Before a poster was printed in large quantities, the printer would print a limited number of posters as "test" posters. Because they needed to be shown to people at the studio, people in the art department, the stars, etc, they would print a number of test posters and distribute them to these people. Some of them would be fully trimmed, but often they would leave the color chart on the left edge of many of the posters, which added an extra inch to the width of the poster. We know that all true Star Wars fans know this, but this poster (known in the hobby as the "birthday" poster) was only issued to theaters that showed Star Wars for 365 days straight through, which makes this an exceedingly desirable poster (and far more rare than almost all other Star Wars posters)! George Lucas had to get permission to use the action figures on the poster from Kenner, and it reads "'STAR WARS' ACTION FIGURES COURTESY OF KENNER PRODUCTS". It is considered to be far more rare than all of the theatrical posters from the 1977 release!

Condition: fair to good. The poster was never folded but it was very roughly handled while it was rolled and there are no partial horizontal creases throughout the poster every 2 1/2" or so. It also has other creases scattered throughout. The top 1 1/2" was folded back at one time and the other three borders were folded back at one time and it was taped to something with tape in the corners and in part of the borders. Obviously this poster can be restored, but bear in mind its many defects and look at out super-sized image before bidding on it.
