An Original Vintage Comic Book (measures approximately 7 1/8" x 10 1/4") (Learn More) Four Color Comics (also known as Four Color and Dell Four Color) was a comic book anthology series published by Dell Comics between 1939 and 1962. The title is a reference to the four basic colors used when printing comic books at the time. The first 25 issues are known as "series 1". In mid-1942, the numbering started over again, and "series 2" began. After the first hundred issues of the second series, Dell stopped putting the "Four Color Comics" designation on the books, but they continued the numbering system for twenty years. Four Color published many of the first licensed Disney comics. This entire series has always been very confusing to collectors, because each issue has a different starring character, and the character's name is very large on the cover, and the "Four Color" is very small. We are not sure why Dell thought this system made sense, but they eventually came to their senses and gave characters their own series, beginning with issue #1, which is much better for collectors! Volcano Valley, script and art by Carl Barks; Donald accidentally receives a full-size World War II bomber instead of the model plane he ordered, and sells it to the South American country of Volcanovia. Donald Duck and Radio Trouble, art by Tom McKimson; Donald sends the nephews to buy six eggs, but the advertisement for the eggs lands upside-down and the kids buy him six expensive radios from the Friendly Credit Store instead. Donald Duck's Big Blow-out, art by Jack Hannah; Donald and Neighbor Jones both build barbecues and get in a fight when Jones buys up all the marshmallows in town for a party. 52 pages, full color.
