An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Herald (measures 7" x 11" [18 x 28 cm]; 2 pages) (Learn More) The Mark of the Vampire, the 1935 Tod Browning horror thriller ("You will not dare believe... what your eyes see!"; "These two strange symbols meant 'marked for death'!"; "Important! Do not divulge the secret of 'Mark of the Vampire' to your friends... let them by mystified... and thrilled!"; based on the story 'The Hypnotist' by Tod Browning; about a father and daughter vampire team in an unnamed European country, and naturally, wherever they go, people are found dead) starring Lionel Barrymore, Elizabeth Allan, Bela Lugos (as Count Mora)i, Lionel Atwill, Jean Hersholt, Carroll Borland (as Luna, a female vampire; Borland was a huge Lugosi fan who wrote a script intended for him and appeared in this movie with him, which was only one of six movies she appeared in!), Holmes Herbert, and James Bradbury Jr. Note that director Tod Browning had incredible success with Dracula in 1931, but Freaks in 1933 was a major failure (at the time), and he was trying to regain his former glory with this movie, which was very loosely based on another major success, London After Midnight, which starred Lon Chaney Sr.! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that first release U.S. movie paper from this Tod Browning/Bela Lugosi MGM horror movie has always been beyond rare. We have only ever auctioned a single window card, but no other posters. This herald could certainly be framed and enjoyed, although one would have to choose which part of it to display (it has a full image on one side, and on the other wise is a smaller diagonal area which was meant to be folded over. We have pictured the herald both ways so you can see the full image and also how it was intended to be displayed. The rest of the back of the herald is blank, where the theater could print their information and play dates. We have never auctioned this herald before! Condition: very good. There is a tear in the top left corner that separated that corner. Someone re-attached it with a piece of tape from the back. They also put a piece of tape on the back of the other three corners and two small pieces of tape on the back of the center of the blank area. Some of the pieces of tape were removed and caused surface paper loss. All but one of them were in the blank area, but one affects the small pointing hand art in the top right of the triangular area (see our images). There is also a tiny tear in the top of the "B" of "Barrymore" at top left. Learn More about condition grades
