An Original Vintage Folded Italian One-Sheet Poster (1sh; measures 27 1/2" x 39 1/4" [70 x 100 cm]) (Learn More)

Caesar Film was an Italian film production and distribution company active in an initial phase during silent cinema from 1914 to 1919. In these years it became one of the main production houses, involving in its activity many of the most important directors and actors of the time. However, movies from the U.S. soon began to threaten Caesar Film and other Italian film companies. To combat this, several companies (including Caesar Film) merged to form UCI. Unfortunately, UCI went bankrupt in 1925 and this also forced most member companies to cease production. However, Caesar Film was relaunched at the beginning of the sound cinema for a second period of activity that lasted from 1931 to 1935.
Artist: Giovanni Spellani
Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare pre-World War II Italian poster, which we have only auctioned once before! Virtually no Italian posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II (mostly only pre-war heavy stock lobby cards, and even those are rare). Apparently there were many paper shortages in Italy during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters! And of course this poster likely predates World War I, making it even more amazing that it survives! Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube.

Condition: fair to good. The poster is very fragile and it has paper loss in each corner, but fortunately only slightly affecting the printing and small parts of the image background. It has light staining scattered throughout, more so down the center of the poster and there are also some small tears and tiny paper loss in the man's face and hair. If I owned this poster, I would surely have a talented restorer properly back it, but bear in mind the poster's current condition and cost of restoration before bidding.
