No Te Enganes Corazon (released in the U.S. as "Don't Fool Yourself, Dear"), the 1937 Miguel Contreras Torres Mexican (about a dying man who spends all of his money on one last fling; this has been the plot of many movies, including a section of "Grand Hotel" from 1932; in this one, the dying old man finally stands up to his wife and helps everyone solve their problems, in addition to him spending lots of his money!) starring Sara Garcia, Carlos Orellana, Manuel Buendia, Matilde Corell, and Cantinflas (in a very minor role, when he was still "Fortino Mario Alfonso Moreno Reyes", in his very first movie). Note that this is an important movie, but only because it was legendary Mexican comedian Cantinflas' very first picture (he appears in five brief scenes, and he is not a comedian in them). The movie would likely mostly be forgotten, EXCEPT that two years later, after a few other minor appearances, he made a short in 1939 with his comic character "Cantinflas", and there were several more shorts, and then after a feature film, Ahi esta el detalle ("You're Missing the Point"), his character quickly became famous throughout Mexico (similar to Chaplin's "The Tramp"). At that point, some clever Mexican promoter re-released THIS movie as a "Cantinflas" movie, even though that was completely deceptive in every way! We have auctioned posters from two different re-releases of this movie (which we believe to be from the early 1940s and late 1940s), but we have never seen a poster from the first 1937 release of this movie (and even if one turned up, Cantinflas would surely not be billed or pictured, because he was such a minor character in it).

Important Added Info: Note that this poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this Mexican movie, is not only not from the first release, but it is incredibly deceptive! As noted above, this was likely from when the movie was re-released a second time in the late 1940s. We can't begin to imagine how moviegoers reacted when they went into the theater thinking they would see a Cantinflas movie, and then seeing a movie that he was barely in! Also, as noted above, we have never seen a first release poster from this movie, and it would surely not have Cantinflas billed or shown. Finally, note that we also have a earlier re-release poster from this movie that we believe to date from the early 1940s, again deceptively billing Cantinflas, and that is in a separate auction.

Note that this linenbacked Mexican poster (and 110 others, which we are auctioning in 111 separate auctions) comes from a remarkable collection of Mexican posters which was assembled over many decades! We first auctioned ones from this collection in August and December of 2023, and those included many great rarities, and they sold for as much as $2,505, but there were also a number of great bargains that sold for well under the cost of linenbacking alone! NOW, we are auctioning an additional 111 posters from this amazing collection, which again includes many great rarities, including 9 Mexican posters with art by Ernesto Garcia Cabral, and 43 of the 111 are ones we either have NEVER auctioned before, or only auctioned once before!
