An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French "Affiche" Movie Poster (23x32; measures 22 1/4" x 31 1/4" [57 x 79 cm]) (Learn More)

Hadaka no shima (released in the U.S. in 1962 as "The Island" and in other English-speaking countries as "The Naked Island"), the 1960 Kaneto Shindo Japanese family relationship island survival melodrama (about a Japanese family of four living on a small island, and having great difficulty in finding fresh water to irrigate their crops) starring Masanori Horimoto, Nobuko Otowa, Shinji Tanaka, and Taiji Tonoyama. Note that this movie won several international awards and was nominated for a BAFTA award!

Important Added Info: Note that we have only auctioned this French poster once before, and now that poster has been reconsigned to us, so it is still the only example of this poster we have ever auctioned! Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 22 1/4" x 31 1/4" [57 x 79 cm].

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had very minor fold and border wear. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame. The person who trimmed the excess linen may have very slightly trimmed into the right border of the poster (see our image).
